computer science or computer engineering

According to computer scientist and researcher Peter Denning, the fundamental question driving computer science is: "What can be automated?" The fundamental question driving innovation in computer engineering, on the other hand, might be: "What technology can we build for automation?" Like computer science, computer engineering deals with solving real-world problems, but it does so primarily with hardware rather than software. Computer engineering, or CE, is a practical, research-oriented field where computer science, electrical engineering, and physics come together. It's a broad discipline because even relatively simple computing components are now incredibly complex compared to what was considered cutting-edge just a few decades ago. Computer engineering involves writing code, but when computer engineers code, it is often because they are building complete systems from scratch.
